KNOW WHY YOUR BELIEVE
I had a little difficulty coming up with a
title for this article. It deals with
civility, and the inability for a lot of people to conduct a civil conversation
these days without reacting hatefully.
While I was dwelling on this problem, I was in the middle of a Bible
study on the pastoral letters, 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. The theme of these books is about defending
the faith, standing firm for the truth.
Over the last few months I have come to the conclusion that a lot of
people donít know WHY they believe something. In fact, I have been making sure I know WHY I believe
something. It has also become my desire
to help people know why they believe something, or help them discern for
themselves what their thinking, and to shed light on how they came to the
conclusion they have. I would love to hopefully help people know the reason for
their hope, and to open the eyes of those blinded by hate, hypocrisy and
Last week after U.N. Ambassador Nikki
Haley resigned, a young lady tweeted about it.
The tweet was her take on the real reason Mrs. Haley resigned; it was so
she was able to run for President in 2020.
She went on to say that, "of
course I could never vote for her.Ē
I found this thought to be intriguing
and wanted to know Why she believed this already. So I tweeted back a question.
She seems to have done a good job as governor and ambassador. What reason keeps you from voting for her if she
ran? I donít know much else about her.
Her reply was very gracious and made her
Thank you for asking so kindly. Many differences but deal breakeris she supports Trump and the new Trumpian Republican
also did questionable things as ambassador. She says she will campaign in í20
for Trump. It is simply immoral to me to
keep an immoral
man and party in power.
is a valid issue and one every voter should consider. But if her WHY is immorality I wanted her to
understand you have to be consistent in thinking. So to shine the light on the
Democratic parties stand on immorality I tweeted back;
He does have a Beavis & Butthead personality,
but he has done a lot of good for the country. As far as immorality goes,
Kennedy had hookers in the white house & we all know what Clinton did in
the oval office, so Dems are just as immoral. Heck, Hillary had the primary
I got no reply from the young lady and let it rest. The next day I was going to tweet her again
to ask if she saw this as well, but she had blocked me from further
communications. Not wanting to allow the
conversation to end this way, and not wanting to lose a Twitter friend, I wrote
the following messages in rapid succession.
Need a little help. Yesterday a young lady
posted a tweet about the reason Ambassador Haley resigned; she was going to run for President. Then she
said she could never vote for Haley. So I sent the attached tweet to ask
why. I am curious why people believe what they do.
So she sent me a reasonable reply. Good
reason to not vote for Trump, same as mine. Immorality is a major issue.
So I sent her the following reply. I just pointed
out some truths about the Democratic party and their stance on
immorality. No personal attack, just facts. Then she blocked me. I guess she wasn't
interested in the truth, or pointing out potential hypocrisy in her
So I Know a lot of you are still connected
to this person. Tell her for me that I meant no harm. My desire is for people to know Why they believe
something. Sometimes facing a truth is hard, but it is life and it is precious. We
don't need to live a lie.
I got a reply from another young lady that accused me of
BS. Accused me of not knowing what
immorality is and a few other hateful remarks about "quitting while I still
canĒ. (Whatever thatís supposed to mean.)
So I replied back to her. It isn't BS. It's really true. If immorality
is the issue, and it is a good one, you could vote for neither candidate. She said she couldn't vote for Haley because she worked with Trump. But
Hillary has the same baggage. I didn't vote for either candidate due to
And the final tweet from the new young lady was the standard
"That is your
truth, not mine.Ē
She also included a few other similar nonsensical
thinking. So I replied to her;
Truth is truth for all people. Knowing
people didn't want to see that, someone coined a phrase "Turning a
blind eye." I was just hoping to open some eyes. People should study the
issues, understand why they believe something. Apply the same test for
And then she blocked me as well.
be the nicest people in the room. I
truly believe that and practice it.
Thumperís mom in the movie Bambi made a big impression on me as a child
when she told her son, "If you canít say something nice, donít say anything at
all.Ē This is good advice. However,
sometimes you have to make a stand and defend the truth. For some, the truth
hurts, so be gentle. In the Epistles to
Timothy and Titus, Paul tells them to not get into meaningless arguments over minor
issues that donít matter. However, he
was adamant they defend the truth and to root out false teaching. He sums up this teaching in 2 Timothy
I say, donít get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start
fights. 24 A
servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to
teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25 Gently
instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those peopleís
hearts, and they will learn the truth. 26 Then
they will come to their senses and escape from the devilís trap. For they have
been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.
So, when faced with a foolish answer from someone who
doesnít really understand what they are saying, treat them with respect, be
patient, but tell them the truth. That
is what the Bible teaches, and that is what Jesus did during his earthly
ministry. When confronted with a sinner
Jesus would forgive them and tell them to "go and sin no more.Ē However, he didnít hold back when it came to
those teaching falsehoods. He condemned
them for this evil practice. The young ladies I encountered on Twitter fall
into the first category as they have been misled by those in power in the
Democratic party. Those in seats of the
Democratic power today are telling their followers to kick people who donít believe
like they do. They teach hatred and
division instead of a civil discourse.
Itís good to see that a lot of people are seeing this for what it is,
So, letís pray for restoration of civility in this
nation. Letís pray for our President as
we are commanded to do so in the Bible.
Letís pray for revival across this nation. Join me in these prayers.
