DEVOTION OF THE MONTH - MARCH 2013

HEAVY?

After a long day at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with my five year old grandson, the concert was over and it was time to go home. He had a blast during the day; riding rides, playing games, eating junk food and watching the rodeo. However, once the concert started he fell fast asleep and now it was time to go home. He was sleeping peacefully as I picked him up, and started the long walk down the ramps and to the parking lot shuttle. By the time I got to the end of the line to wait on the shuttle my arms ached and I had broken a pretty good sweat. As I settled into the line I noticed a petit little lady in front of me holding a sleepy boy of her own. She looked like she was about to drop. As our eyes met, and I saw the weariness in her eyes, I acknowledged my sentiments with her and said, "They get heavy don't they!

Seconds after that remark I remembered what Isaiah had to say about weariness when he stated, "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the wearyand increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28-31(NIV)

What I learned was though we get physically tired, our muscles drained of their power, our nerves at their very end, we have a God who knows our frailty and is there to support us when we put our hope in Him. We serve such a great God. The Bible tells us our Father knows every hair on our head, he knew us before we were born, he formed us in our mothers womb, he is our staff to lean on and our strength in time of weakness. In fact the Apostle Paul says that in our weakness we are made strong. Hope is a powerful antidote to weariness. I know if I want to feel stronger, run longer, and walk further, I just need to put my faith in the God who made the universe and my hope in the One who never gets tired.
